Day 1 marks the beginning of the season, especially for a young team that is all potential. The number of new faces means this team has to use the next 6 weeks effectively if it wants to live up to the hype. This is also the first time in several years where there will be hard-fought battles for depth chart position and/or roster spots - a welcome change from when the coaching staff was determining which stiff was least likely to embarrass them on a weekly basis. I'm looking at you Kwame.

*Larry Allen isn't in yet, but he's probably going to be sitting out most of it anyway to preserve himself for the season.
*DJ82's toe is still bothering him. This is going to be something to keep an eye on all season since that is an injury that tends to nag and flare up randomly.
*49ers Webzone has a decent liveblog of the first open session. Sounds like the team is loose and having a good time with the fans that made it out there.
