Week 4 Preview

I'm going to cheat this week and just throw up a link to Matt Maiocco's preview. This game is mammoth. Hopefully the team steps up to the challenge.

That is absolutely cheating. Whose blog is this anyway? Kidding.

With VD out, this week the gold diggers will need to revert to using the wide outs, as they have been in the past. While Walker may be a pleasant surprise, I'll be watching Battle on every play. Look for a solid outing, including 7 rec for 96 yds and 2 TD. I honestly believe that unless they demonstrate that receivers provide a credible threat, Gore will be impotent again. And no one knows the devastating importance of this fact than Nolan et al.

Also, I'm exceedingly interested in watching our new kick-returner's efforts this week, as that position has been completely lacking since a few outlier events by Otis Amy a few years back. Let's hope the Beer Man can bring us a legitimate return-threat, break some tackles, and add a little talent to the other side of our special teams unit -- Nedney and Lee have been doing such a phenomenal job thus far, they have truly set the bar.

Also, I'm hoping that the additional pressure from playing against an elite stealer's D will bring about resurgence in Smiths performance, once he realizes he isn't in danger of being hit 2.4 seconds after the snap on each play. Hopefully this alleviation will prove inspirational, and we can look for a few more big vertical passes to Battle and others running deeper routes.

As ever, Gore is the lynch-pin, and upon his beastly shoulders rests our fate. Here's to hoping our bid for alternate threat legitimacy rings true.
